Born Claudia Alta Taylor, Lady Bird married Lyndon Baines Johnson in 1934. As the First Lady, she created the Society For A More Beautiful National Capital, a project which planted millions of flowers in Washington, D.C. She became the first president’s wife to advocate for legislation by promoting the Highway Beautification Act, nicknamed “Lady Bird’s Bill”, which sought to beautify the nation’s highway system by seeding roadside areas with native plant species. She is quoted as saying “where flowers bloom, so does hope.”
Lady Bird fills the air with the scent of delicate spring flowers in full bloom. Our nation was her canvas. Like the wildflowers which still adorn her work of art, this aromatic bouquet is a timeless treasure.
